New! SMS text messaging alerts

From 30th April we are introducing text message notifications, as another way of alerting Landlords and Lead Tenants about key repayment milestones. Currently, this service will apply to:

1. Repayment Notifications
2. Single Claim Notifications
3. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

You’ll get free alerts straight to your mobile phone, as well as reminding you of key actions you might need to take regarding the repayment of the deposit.
Please note that we can only send SMS alerts if we have your current mobile phone number registered on our system. If you'd like to check that we’ve got your correct details then log into your DPS account by clicking here.

1. Repayment Notifications

At the end of a tenancy the repayment process is initiated either by the Landlord or the Lead Tenant. Currently The DPS issues notification that this process has started via email or post - SMS text messaging is being introduced as another method of notification. The following applies to both Landlords and Lead Tenants.

If we have a valid email address, you'll receive an email notification. You’ll also receive an email reminder if the repayment is not completed.

If the email address is not valid but we have a valid mobile phone number, you'll receive a SMS text message notification. You’ll also receive a SMS text reminder if the repayment is not completed.

If the email address and mobile phone number are both not valid, you’ll receive a postal notification.

2. Single Claim Notification

When a Single Claim is initiated by the Landlord or the Lead Tenant (i.e. the valid Statutory Declaration has been received and processed) we will send either an email or a SMS text message* to the other party informing them that a Single Claim Notification has been sent to them in the post and that we need to receive the completed Notification within 14 days.

3. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Landlords
When a Landlord Evidence Form is issued by The DPS (as a result of the dispute process being initiated) we will automatically send either an email or a
SMS text message* informing that a Landlord Evidence Form has been posted and that we need to receive the completed form together with their evidence within 14 days.

Lead Tenants
When a Tenant Evidence Form is issued (as a result of a completed Landlord Evidence Form being received from the Landlord) we will automatically send either an email or a
SMS text message* to the Lead Tenant informing that a Tenant Evidence Form has been posted to them and that we need to receive the completed form together with their evidence within 14 days.

Do we have your correct contact details?

As you can see from the above, it’s essential that both Landlords and Lead Tenants register a current email address and mobile phone number with The DPS - it can significantly speed up the repayment process!

It only takes a few minutes to check your details and update if necessary by logging into your account at www.depositprotection.com/login. We will not use your mobile phone number for any marketing purposes or supply to any third parties.

Our Terms & Conditions will be updated to reflect these changes on the 30th April 2010, accessible on The DPS website.

We’ve introduced this new service in response to research and feedback from DPS users - we hope that it will help you to manage your deposits more efficiently.

Kind regards

The DPS Customer Service Team
