We safeguard the deposit throughout the period of the tenancy and repay the funds to the appropriate parties. There are no membership fees or qualifying criteria to fulfil and our scheme is open to all letting agents, landlords and organisations.
You retain the deposit and pay a fee for it to be protected for the duration of the tenancy. There are no registration or annual renewal fees. The scheme is available to regulated agents, private landlords and certain organisations who reside within the British Islands with rental properties in England and Wales.

Welcome to The Deposit Protection Service

Nearly all private landlords and letting agents taking deposits for assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs) in England and Wales are required to safeguard them with a government-authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme. Read about the legislation.

The Deposit Protection Service (The DPS) launched in 2007 and has grown to become a trusted partner to many landlords and letting agents, now protecting over one million tenancy deposits *. We are proud to offer a ‘one-stop shop’ for tenancy deposit protection by providing landlords and letting agents with a choice of custodial or insurance-based schemes.
