BRISTOL, 27 August 2025 –The Deposit Protection Service (The DPS) has created a series of social media videos for students as well as their parents and guardians.

The UK’s largest protector of deposits said that it created the nine short-form videos to help students and their families understand the key stages of renting.

The organisation said it is promoting the minute-long videos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as well as YouTube and LinkedIn.

Matt Trevett, Managing Director at The DPS, said: “The start of term can be daunting for student renters, and we would encourage landlords and letting agents to share these videos with their tenants.

“Students should make sure they have read and understood their tenancy agreement to fully understand their responsibilities, but these bite-sized videos will give them as well as their families and friends an outline understanding of how tenancies work – and what they should do as renters.”

Topics include:

  • Actions students should take before the start of a tenancy
  • How to look after a property
  • How to prepare to hand over the property and claim the deposit at the end

The organisation said it is also sharing the videos with university newspapers and student websites to raise awareness.

The DPS added that it has a long history producing tenancy best practice materials for renters and landlords. For example, it hosts videos about deposit disputes — and how to avoid them — on its website.

The full list of videos are available here, and further information for student renters is also available here.
